About
Blak & Bright

Blak & Bright is Australia’s premier organisation dedicated to showcasing and elevating First Nations literary voices.

Founded in 2016 as our flagship event, the Blak & Bright First Nations Literary Festival, we have now established year-round programming, partnering with like-minded organisations across Australia.

We are dedicated to celebrating the rich tapestry of First Nations writers across all genres. Our workshops, panels, and performances create distinctive spaces for Blak conversations, showcasing writers at all stages of their careers to an expanding and increasingly diverse audience.

Guided by the belief that Blak stories are for everyone, our mission is to amplify the powerful narratives and diverse perspectives of First Nations writers, ensuring their voices resonate across the nation and beyond.

We also champion the economic advancement of First Nations peoples by fostering sustainable writing careers in the literary sector. Through valuable skills training and mentorship, we enhance the knowledge and capabilities of our community in the arts, empowering them to thrive.

Open Discourse

Blak & Bright honours the self-determination and self-expression of our community and understands that First Nations peoples are diverse in their values, beliefs and opinions.

Our literary festival is a place where artistic freedom, and freedom of speech, is protected, promoted and upheld, and we seek to create a safe and respectful environment for everyone.

We are firmly against violence, racism and discrimination of any kind, and stand with those who advocate and fight for justice, tolerance and empowerment.
