Maurial Spearim is a Gamilaraay, Kooma, Muruwari woman who draws strength from her connection to Country and People. A writer, actor and singer interested in exploring theatre, song and dance through the expressions of the body and the utterance of the voice, where artforms are combined to create a story evocative of past, present and future. Her work is bold, thought-provoking and unapologetic. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Dramatic Art (2009). An actor who has been cast in various roles on TV- Neighbours, Wentworth, Redfern Now. A Green Room Award nominee Independent Female Performer (2016) in Elbow Room’s ‘We Get It’ staged at Melbourne Theatre Company. Her first play Blaqq Catt was performed at Next Wave Festival and Melbourne Fringe festival 2016. Maurial has gone on to write poetry for Melbourne Writers festival, Blak & Bright festival, Yirramboi festival. Maurial started her work writing her second play at Besen Family Writers program at Malthouse Theatre Company 2017, has written her third play Inside, staged reading at Melbourne Theatre Company Cybec Electric 2021, her fourth play Totality for Ilbijerri 10 in 10 2021. She is studying her Master of Writing for Performance VCA, Melbourne University. Currently Maurial is co-writing for two Australian TV series and is a co producer for Homelands Collective.
