Blak & Bright First Nations Literary Festival is based in Naarm (Melbourne). Established in 2016, the four day showcase celebrates the diverse expressions of First Nations writers and covers all genres from oral stories to epic novels and plays to poetry.
We believe that Blak stories are for everyone.
This Festival is unique, with over sixty First Nations artists front and centre. In 2024 we’re offering new events while programming favourite events from our previous Festivals.
Blak & Bright First Nations Literary Festival partners with literary organisations nationally and internationally to present Blak stories at venues near you.

Blak & Bright honours the self-determination and self-expression of our community, and understands that First Nations peoples are diverse in their values, beliefs and opinions. Our literary festival is a place where artistic freedom, and freedom of speech, is protected, promoted and upheld, and we seek to create a safe and respectful environment for everyone. We are firmly against violence, racism and discrimination of any kind, and stand with those who advocate and fight for justice, tolerance and empowerment.
