Yarn Bombing writing workshop with Jeanine Leane

Saturday 24 June 2023, 10am to 1pm @ LibraryMuseum 540 Kiewa St, Albury NSW 2640, Australia

FREE micro and short fiction workshop for First Nations participants (min. age 16) with Jeanine Leane

Have something you want to write? Or have you been working on something but not sure where to next? It could be prose, poetry, spoken word, fiction or non-fiction.

Write Around the Murray, in partnership with Blak & Bright, is offering emerging local First Nations writers a masterclass in micro and short fiction. This will be a structured, well-rounded masterclass that offers networking opportunities along with practical writing skills and skills to present in front of live audiences.

Yarn Bombing is a hugely successful component of the Blak & Bright First Nations Literary Festival. Storytellers pop-up at the start of public sessions and present their 3-minute spoken word piece of any genre: short fiction, non-fiction, poetry, reportage etc. The stories capture the exceptional talents and capabilities of community members who would not normally be programmed into a literary festival. Yarn Bombers from previous Blak & Bright festivals are now forging their way in the literary world.

Performance Opportunities

Interested storytellers will have the opportunity to ‘Yarn Bomb’ the Write Around the Murray Festival in September and deliver a 3-minute spoken word piece of any genre.

Jeanine Leane

The ‘Yarn Bombing Micro and Short Fiction Masterclass’ will be facilitated by award-winning Wiradjuri writer, Jeanine Leane. She is an author, poet and teacher whose prose, essays and poetry have been published widely in Australia and abroad. She is the editor of Guwayu – for all times: A collection of First Nations Poetry and currently teaches Creative Writing at the University of Melbourne.
