Yung Tent Embassyis a homage to Canberra 1972 when a group of staunch Blak activists set up the Aboriginal Tent Embassy on the lawns opposite Parliament House. Their protest against the Government’s refusal to acknowledge Aboriginal sovereignty is still relevant today. Blak & Bright First Nations Literary Festival’s Yung Tent Embassy brings together five Yung Blak activists to speak to the challenges facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in 2023. Co-curated by Deline Briscoe and Kaninna, speakers will present a passionate ten-minute talk about social justice issues. There’s room for the audience to respond so pull up a chair and listen to our beautiful Blak activists speak their truth!
In the local languages of the Boonwurrung and Woiwurrung peoples, YIRRAMBOI means TOMORROW.
YIRRAMBOI festival platforms the interconnectedness and diversity of First Nations creatives, locally, nationally and internationally. A 10 day feast of mediums spanning the breadth of artistic expressions with a collective voice of resilience and evolutionary practices. Emerging, mid-career and established First Nations creatives taking back space to crack open the heart of Melbourne, revealing the hum of country beneath. Will you hear it?
Returning for its 4th Iteration from the 4 – 14 May 2023, YIRRAMBOI invites audiences to immerse themselves in Blak stories, Blak truth, Blak brilliance.
