Blak & Bright First Nations Literary Festival acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the sacred lands on which we work. We pay our respects to the people of the Kulin Nations and all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders, past present and future.

We recognise all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as the first storytellers; and that knowledge transfer through storytelling is imbedded in the very DNA of this Country.

The Sun The Moon The Stars X EWF

Thursday 15 June 2023, 7 to 8pm @ The Channel, Arts Centre Melbourne

Cosmology is a source of wonder and this group of emerging and established First Nations writers have summoned up their writing magic to share stories of the Sun, the Moon and the Stars. With Tamala Shelton, Brodie Murray, Zerene Webster, Monique Grbec and Clint Lingard.

This event is presented in partnership with The Emerging Writers’ Festival (EWF) and Arts Centre Melbourne.

EWF is one of Australia’s most established and well-respected literary festivals. Developing, nurturing and promoting Australia’s new writing talent, they create platforms for connecting writing communities and their audiences.Through the flagship festival in Naarm and an annual program of events, EWF provides opportunities for emerging writers to develop professionally, and supports them to engage new and larger audiences. EWF 2023 Ambassador: DEBRA DANK!

Debra Dank is a Gudanji/Wakaja woman and has worked in teaching and learning for many years – a gift given through the hard work of her parents. She continues to experience the privilege of living with Country and with family. Her nonfiction book, We Come With This Place, has been shortlisted for the 2023 Stella Prize and many other awards.

As one of four EWF festival 2023 Ambassadors, Debra Dank is part of the National Writers’ Conference on Saturday, 17 June 2023. The conference is the fully digital centrepiece event of the Emerging Writers’ Festival. Alongside four other Ambassadors, Debra will present at this day of writing and conversation where emerging writers nationwide can develop their skills, hear from leaders in the field, and forge connections within the industry, held entirely over Zoom.
