Kate Howarth was born in 1950. Abandoned by her mother almost from birth she spent her early years in the Western Suburbs of Sydney and Outback New South Wales. Kate was forced to leave school at 14 due to financial hardship. At 15 Kate was homeless and pregnant; she went to a home for unwed mothers, where she refused to surrender her baby for adoption. Kate’s memoirs Ten Hail Marys and Settling Day vividly recalls a journey which saw her succeed against all the odds.
